06 September 2011
Last Sunday, September 4th, the 14th edition of the Ride for the Roses was held. It was a special day that ended with an impressive moment of silence, a delighted researcher and a record collection: 1,517,535.27 euros!
The sunny day was kicked off by Ride for the Roses ambassador Frits Barend, the mayor of Aalsmeer Pieter Litjens, Director KWF Rudolphie Michel and researcher at KWF, Prof. Dr. Floor van Leeuwen. The proceeds of the 14th edition of the Ride for the Roses will benefit her research into the (late) effects of the treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of lymphoma.
The Dutch floriculture joined forces
Dutch Flower Flower Group (DFG) and FloraHolland have taken the initiative to supplement the existing fundraising around the Ride for the Roses, with a special flower and plant promotion.
During 1 week the consumer could buy a nice roses in a pot at the Karwei (through Van Dijk Flora/DFG). At the Albert Heijn (through Bloom/DFG) people could buy a beautiful bouquet of roses. With this promotion the Dutch floriculture hoped to raise 100.000 euros for the KWF Kankerbestrijding. In real this successful promotion raised even 125.000 euros!
