Eldama Ravine - Kenya

Karen Roses started in 1989 in Nairobi and the sister company Ravine started in 1997, with the first farm being Kapkolia but later expanding to 4 other satellite farms namely: Chepsito, Simotwo, Kaptumbu and the newest called Torongo. Ravine is located
at 2,100m above sea level, Eldama Ravine, which is 250 Km from Nairobi.

Production
59 ha of Roses with an annual production of above 70 million stems.

Social & Ethical
Employment / Housing
A little over 1000 employees drawn from the local community.
Most employees live in their homes in the neighbourhood.
Transport is provided for graders, pack house and packing employees.
There is a canteen facility run by the workers SACCO offering subsidized nutritious food.

Health Care
Clinic on main farm opened in February 2004 with a satellite clinic in Kaptumbu farm with all basic facilities.
Personnel upgraded to include a trained family planning provider.
Hold HIV/Aids awareness programmes and training on behavioural change undertaken.
Roofing and building materials donated to the community dispensary.

Education
The farm has been involved in supporting local schools by:-
Donating:
- 4,600 litre water tank to Simotwet Primary school,
- 5,000 litre water tank to Kamelilo High;

- Baringo High School
- Eldama Ravine Girls Secondary School
- Poror High School
- St. Marys Tangasis
- Emining Secondary School
- Kamelilo Secondary School
- Toniok Secondary School among others on educational tours beginning 2004 to date
